For Dia De Los Muertos 2021, Nike and Industry PDX reached out to us for help visualizing Mictlān, the Aztec underworld. We were paired with five Mexica artists and asked to conceptualize the nine levels of passage that the deceased must go through before reaching Mictlān. As we were told by our partners, “we are seeds in the soil living an infinite vision with the ones that came before us and those who will follow. This is not one story to tell. It's many, it's about all of us."
We met with five Mexica artists to co-create a representation of the journey to Mictlān, outlining the nine levels of passage. Because each artist worked in a different medium, we were challenged to diversify our techniques and include 3D, 2D and cel animation. This ended in a unique mixed media project that we are very proud of.
